Central Market York History

Central Market York, is a historic public market located in Downtown York, Pennsylvania, York County, Pennsylvania.  Standing at North Beaver and Philadelphia Streets for over 125 years, Central Market is a reminder of York’s storied history and the anchor of the revitalization of Downtown York. More than just a beautiful historic building, Central Market is both a grassroots commercial operation and a community gathering place. It is the economic and social heart of the city.

The Romanesque Revival style building was designed by noted architect John A. Dempwolf and built in 1888.

  • 1888: One of the first buildings to open in York with indoor plumbing
  • 1978: Added to the National Register of Historic Places
  • 2013: Completed $2 million renovation

Central Market York is a historical building in York City (Pa.) that house more than 50 vendors ranging from producers, butchers, and specialty vendors. The mini documentary focuses on the core values each person shares and how a Pennsylvania Dutch culture became a diverse community with international flavors. Documentary was made for the York Daily Record / Sunday News. The documentary is to capture the essence of the people of York City as well as the growth. The work took 5 months with the use of a Canon 5D Mark II & III.
